As the wise pediatrician told us, Lily's first few tries at cereal would be "non-nutritional experiences." Though this proved to be true, she actually took to it quite well (she's definitely her father's daughter, never to turn down a meal). The only thing I wasn't expecting was the necessary bath such an experience would mandate....good thing she likes those too...
