First time fishing

Don't worry, the fish were safe.....we weren't using hooks, just practicing casting with bobbers.

First Day of Summer Camp

This is a big day for our girls....it's the first time they get to go to the same place during the day. For now, it's summer camp. In August, it will be St Marys.

They were so excited this morning. Little Bucs is such an awesome camp, Emily and I were excited for them.....and maybe even a little jealous!

Last Day of School

Look at our big girls....how did that happen!?!?  We're supposed to have babies!!

We are sad that this will be our last day at ETSUs Child Study Center. It's been an absolutely great experience for both of our girls. We'll miss it!  Mrs. Joy, who has been an absolutely amazing teacher for both of our girls, happened to walk into Mellow Mushroom one night this week when we were eating there with friends....you just can't imagine the excitement from her fan club that ensured!

And we'll miss Mrs. Kirkland who has been a great teacher for Lily in second grade. A vast improvement over my second grade experience many years ago with the "horse hog."

Jimmy played ETSU!!!

Yep...here's the picture to prove it (taken from a local newspaper).  From the look of it, it was probably in the 1970's, but hey.....who cares when he's wearing an ETSU shirt!

Bays Mountain

We went out for a Memorial Day hike and picnic at Bays Mountain in Kingsport this morning. We took a 2.3 mile hike around the man made lake. On the hike we saw 4 deer and 2 snakes!  The first was a black snake, probably 4 feet long. We're not sure about the second, best guess is that is was a baby garter or eastern ribbon snake.  Anyway, it was great fun!

Another pool day at JCCC

How did we wait so long to do this?!?!

JCCC

We have been pretty sure that Lily is part amphibian for some time. The girl just loves to swim in the pool...almost certainly a mermaid. This year we finally decided to join the local country club to get access to the pool. Yesterday it opened for the season and we were there! I'm pleased to say that it was incredibly fun....there were 3 other kids there from Lily's class at school!  Once we get CJ swimming, we'll be good to go.

A Beautiful Day

We took Sunday to head off on a family adventure to Asheville. It was a great day to spend together. We started by visiting the new outlets near Asheville to pick up some summer gear. Then we went on to the Biltmore for a family picnic and hike. We were sprinkled in a little during our picnic (in our favorite spot).
But the rain cleared and we found some great trails behind the Antler Village to explore with our new family set of Keens.

The Jeep Lives!

What can I say, its Jeep weather in east TN.  I'm lucky that my girls like riding around with the top down....and also that a couple of guys were kind enough to help me fix the Jeep when it wouldn't start at the Tweetsie Trail.  Not only did they get it started, but found the problem it'd been having.  Don't know who you guys are, but if you're reading this, thanks again!

I sure have missed this car.

Garden

The spring garden...lots of kale, spinach, brussel sprouts, broccoli.  Keeping it under the frost blanket has kept the bugs off of the plants...eating kale without holes in the leaves is a plus!
Put 14 tomato plants in this row....they are up next to the fence.  Then on the garden side there are squash, basil and pepper plants alternated.
Using these floating row covers to give the young plants some shade as they get used to the sun.
Still so much room, and so many plants waiting to find their home!

Lily's First Goal

The Menchie Sprinkles had their first game of the end of season tournament on Tuesday night.  They were playing against the Kickin' Cuties, a team they were playing for the third time in a row!  The two teams were fairly evenly matched, and this was witnessed in the 1-1 tie score at the end of regulation.  Two overtime periods quickly passed with both teams locked into a draw.  The next step was penalty kicks....5 rounds of kicks later the two teams were still tied.  Next came sudden death penalty kicks.  The 5 girls for each team that had already kicked couldn't kick again.  The girl for the Kickin' Cuties kicked first and missed.

Then came Lily....that girl just amazes us sometimes.  She was lined up off center to the point that I was afraid she was going to strike with her left foot!  It turns out she knew exactly was she was doing...she had been lining it up for the corner of the goal.  And she gave it a clean strike that sent the ball high into the corner of the net.  It was a thing of beauty....a walk off goal.  Here she is just after.

The Flower Dragons!

So this spring we experimented with youth soccer.  Lily played for the Menchies Sprinkles, while Caroline played for the Flower Dragons....a team coached by a couple of folks she knew well.  We played our last game this morning, and while challenging, it has also been extremely rewarding.  It was a bunch of fun working with the kids, and it has also been a great opportunity to get to know some people outside of work/church too!

Here we are posing for our team picture at the beginning of the season

A few Flower Dragons inspecting the goals during a water break

And of course our Menchie Sprinkle!

Adventure Day!

Today we packed a picnic lunch and took off to enjoy the beauty of east Tennessee in the spring.  First stop was the "Blue Hole"....Milligan students often come here to hike and jump in the pool in the second picture.  There are cliffs above it....the students jump from about 20 feet up.

Then we went to visit Lake Watagua...even though the water was freezing and we didn't have bathing suits, the girls just couldn't help themselves :)

Easter!

Nana and Papa came to visit for Easter this year....here are a few pictures from Easter morning and our traditional visit to the Farmer's Daughter.
