Suits

So today was kind of a big deal for Milligan.  We are reorganizing ourselves academically that will prepare us for future growth.  Part of that reorganization is the creation of Schools.  The Business Dept will become part of the School of Business and Technology.  Today one of our Trustees (and owner of Bank of Tennessee where I spent a few good years when we first moved to Tennessee) made a donation to Milligan and was honored by having this new school named after him....The William Greene Jr. School of Business and Technology.

I had the honor of participating in the ceremony and thanking Mr. Greene on behalf of the business faculty.

Girls, Boys and a Garden

Today is Good Friday...the girls and I are out of school so we decided to stay home to read some books, do some gardening and spend some will deserved quality time with our four legged, and occasionally lonely, family members.  Here are a few random pictures from the day.

Gator watching over the girls during nap time

Unexpected life: a cilantro volunteer....time to fire up the tortilla chips and margarita machine for summer!

Unexpected death: both of our rosemary "bushes" have been going for 4 or 5 years....however this brutally cold winter was enough to wipe them out.

Spring garden....kale, red kale, broccoli, cauliflower.  I think we're good as far as frosts go, but I left the frost blanket over the tiny plants to protect against direct sunlight and flea beetles while they get established....and just in case of a surprise frost.

The old man just turned 10 years old this month....he's just as dignified as ever!

Prescriptions and Predictions

Last weekend Emily and I ran in an unusual race in Bristol.  It was a first for us....it is a half marathon that you can split up into a relay!  Emily ran the first 6 miles.  Then we did a relay style hand off of a purple bracelet at the 6th mile and I ran the next 7.1 miles.  Apparently we were charged up for this race because we ran like the wind!  Emily did an 8:11 pace on the first leg with me doing a 8:13 pace on the second.  The total time for Prescriptions and Predictions (our team name....get it?) was 1:46:30.  The results page is here:

Superhero 5K

Straight Captain America....yeah, those are my real pecs.

I ran the Superhero 5K on Tulane University's campus today while Emily was doing conference sessions.  It was a fun adventure even getting there because I had to take New Orleans streetcars.  Tulane has a beautiful campus and we ran straight through it into an adjacent park.  Here are the results....I posted a 23:13 time, not bad for an old man!

More Wonderful Wednesday Pictures

Thanks to Joel Carillet for these pictures from the Wonderful Wednesday water slide!  I'm actually trying to keep Lily from plowing into the soapy mud puddle at the bottom of the slide.  As you can tell, my efforts were largely in vain....partly because its hard to hold her up while sliding out of control yourself, and partly because I think she really enjoyed hitting the puddle at the bottom!!

Wonderful Wednesday

Our daily routine has changed this semester so that Lily has spent more time at Milligan than she had in the past.  She has gotten to know my friends here and caught up in the excitement of some of our spring festivities.  The biggest of these is Wonderful Wednesday....a 45 year old tradition where the College basically calls off classes for the day and throws a big campus party for the students.  Lily was super excited about it, and since it only happens once a year, she got to spend a gorgeous, 75 degree day with me playing in the sunshine.  We started with a brunch, then went Easter egg hunting, visited the creek (where Lily fell in), and rode the waterslide.  Then Emily and CJ joined us to watch them put me in a dunk booth.  We finished the day with dinner at the caf.  Here are some pics (thanks to Milligan PR and Mark Peacock for the waterslide pics!)
